694. Pioneer (LE-2011 for guns.ru)

In 2011 Russian forum guns.ru (their sub-forum of SAKs enthusiasts) released as forum knife of the year Victorinox Pioneer model with special engravings on blade and back scale. Unfortunately I wasn’t participate in forum’s life then, so when I got an ability to buy this knife later, I didn’t reflect too long..
By the way, it’s a good opportunity to say «Thanks!» to everybody from SAK society in forum.guns.ru for their knowledge and help.

688. ATM 2 — Outrider for Malaysian Armed Forces

Earlier in this blog, we’ve already reviewed special version of Outrider, which was produced for Malaysian Armed Forces (Angkatan Tentera Malaysia – ATM).
The current knife is a second variation, it also has a back-side Phillips screwdriver instead of corkscrew and, additionally, – all tools are black-coated.
Comparative pictures see below.
UPDATE: found another small difference: original ATM has small label ‘SATRIA’ on back scale, new one – doesn’t.

683. Standard. Marlboro Unlimited

If you’ve started to read my blog earlier than yesterday, hopefully you remember interesting special run from Victorinox which was released in collaboration with Marlboro company. This series includes several models (mostly 91-mm) and even Standard model already was reviewed in my blog earlier. Today’s knife also is a Standard model, but it looks absolutely different than other members of this series, instead of small logo it has a huge print «Marlboro» on front scale.

682. Spartan. Castles of Ukraine Series

In 2017 Ukrainian official dealer of Victorinox started sales of new series of knives, dedicated to the famous castles of Ukraine.
The first knife in this run was a «Kamianets–Podilskyi Castle» (not to easy to pronounce, isn’t it?).
I’ve bought this knife almost immediately after release and now, one year later, I really was afraid that this series was ended with only this one knife, but today I got a confirmation, that series will be continued soon. It’s really good news and I hope, series will be interesting and very big, because list of Ukrainian castles is really impressive.

668. Hoffritz LE2 (Troubleshooter)

The Victorinox Troubleshooter is very unusual model.
As far as I know (I’m not sure for 100%) first time Victorinox released this model for the promo-company of Marlboro company (as part of «Marlboro unlimited» series).
The second run was done for US reseller Hoffritz with special naming: Hoffritz LE2 (first edition (LE1) was also quite interesting and I still looking for this model).
The main differences from regular Troubleshooter:
  • no hook;
  • no chisel
  • old-style Phillips screwdriver (with can-opener)

Besides that, – big inlaid «LIMITED EDITION 2» on the back scale and serial number, stamped on liner (mine has number «1969/2000»)

664. Outrider Damast LE2017

I’ve already mentioned several times, that in 2017 Victorinox discontinued slide-lock series (in 111-mm form-factor). So, it wasn’t a big surprise, when were announced, that as part of Damascus limited run, will be presented a new edition of very popular Outrider model (but with liner-lock for sure).
More interesting detail was the fact, that this version of Outrider will not include wood-saw and corkscrew.
Let’s review some pictures?
P.S. I’m not absolutely sure about materials of scales. On official press-release it was specified like:
…Epicurean scales with sequential numbering. These are manufactured using environmentally-friendly wood fiber material, that accentuate the elegant design.

639. Special Pioneer X — VSAKCS 2016

Few years before, in 2016 Victorinox company realized a long-waited desire (I could say — obsession, but I wouldn’t) of hundreds people. They’re realized an Alox model with scissors (first one after vintage Voyager!) − Pioneer X.
Moreover, the same model was released as Damast knife of the Year soon after this. So, we had two new knives for this year. Is it enough? For sure − no, and specially for VSAKC society as model of the year was released ‘light’ version of  the same knife. It was called a Special Pioneer X and was thinner for few millimeters due to removed openers layer.
Stop talking, let’s see the pictures of this beauty..

In the end of summer 2017, specially for Unspunnenfest, Victorinox company released a limited run of Spartan model with unusual ‘3D-textured‘ scales, which are looks closely similar to natural stone (as main symbol of mentioned festival).
It wasn’t a first time when such type of scales were produced, but everything looks like we’ll see this type of scales more often starting from this year (White Christmas Explorer 2017, for instance).
