This is week of show of rarities (and modesty) in my blog, isn’t it?
Today we’ll review pretty nice and relatively vintage Cadet. It’s already almost modern model, – it got a nail-file instead of small clip-pointed blade, but still has old ribbed Alox scales. Moreover, this knife almost new!
Some Victorinox models were produced for the years and collect several modifications of the same knife (I’m talking about all possible..) looks like interesting (and very long) quest.
Usually this quest started from latest (modern) variation of some model and, later on you will find another, older one and so on, so on, so on…
Usually.. but not this time. Considered knife is known as Pioneer Settler. Simple one-layer model with just two blades. It sounds weird, but I still cannot find modern variation of this knife (0.8050.26).
Instead of it I got an oldest variation, which initially was called as Model 2205.
Red scales, old cross, clip-pointed small blade and Elinox tang. Just a combo, huh?

Previous post was about some Limited edition from 2017, so let’s continue this endless story..
Three years ago, as you all know (I’m absolutely sure by the way), Victorinox started new (every-year?) limited run of three Alox models –Classic SD, Cadet and Pioneer. In order to make these knives more attractive, every run produced in new color, 2017 bring us an olive-green models.
This time let’s start review all members of this LE from the youngest member, — Alox Classic SD LE 2017!
The Victorinox Cadet II is the same model as regular Cadet, but with small blade (clip-pointed) instead of nail-file. Historically this version was produced before regular Cadet, but as sometimes happened (the same situation with Bantam / Bantam II), later on new version got a ‘Cadet‘ name while this one – Cadet II.
More interesting thing – it has not typical for this form-factor material of scales, as you can see, they’re smooth (and beautiful!)
The Victorinox Executive is a 74mm model with unique tool — orange-peeler.
Interesting fact: the same model, but with stainless steel scales has unique name — Director, all others (cellidor, wood, Alox and even gold and silver) shares the same name Executive.
In previous post we’ve reviewed not very popular model (I wouldn’t say ‘rare’..), specially created for operations with watches.
So, now we’ll review new variation of this model. It’s a former Wenger model, and it has a very unique feature – it has a non-folding blade. Uncommon practice for this manufacturer, I cannot remember even another one with fixed blade (we’re not going to discuss bayonets, by the way).
Few years before, in 2016 Victorinox
company realized a long-waited desire (I could say — obsession, but I wouldn’t) of hundreds people. They’re realized an Alox model with scissors (first one after vintage Voyager!) − Pioneer X
Moreover, the same model was released as Damast knife of the Year
soon after this. So, we had two new knives for this year. Is it enough? For sure − no, and specially for VSAKC
society as model of the year was released ‘light’ version of the same knife. It was called a Special Pioneer X
and was thinner for few millimeters due to removed openers layer.
Stop talking, let’s see the pictures of this beauty..
Victorinox Pioneer model with Dark Gray colored scales. Seems, this model was produced specially for US market (but I’m not sure, if you have some information about it — please share it with me).
P.S. In order to show difference between this shade of gray with regular black, I’ve added few comparative pictures below.
Yes, my collection contains only Victorinox knives. No other trademarks, no other knives, even original / genuine Swiss ones (bye-bye, Swiza!)
But I couldn’t find any reason for myself to not add this Soldat 1961
to my collection. Will be a member of small family
The Victorinox Executive 58 is a 2-layers model in 58-mm form-factor (it’s a logically, huh?), which looks is absolutely like Companion model, but with very minor difference — pattern of nail-file working surface.
One more fact, which I should to raise (again and again!) – it’s a Victorinox’s products’ naming convention:
- Executive 58 model later evolved into Companion
- Executive 74 model initially was called.. Companion
The Victorinox Cadet is a very popular Alox model in 84-mm range. But this one is something relatively rare. Let’s check what SAKWiki knows:
A Copper colored model was available for a short time prior to 2006 and is considered a collector’s item.
P.S. Special thanks to Mile Živković for the help with identifying!
Another advertisment khife from Swiss Avia Club «Avianna» — Victorinox Pioneer.
Alox Cadet — 2 layers model in 84-mm form-factor.
Need some help with identifying the exact name of this color.
UPDATE: It’s a Hunter Green color. Thanks, Mile!
Early variation of Electrician Alox model with old cross. Before 1980 this model had a name Model 2212.
Actually this model was released before then name Lumberjack was given to the another model with similar configuration of tools. The one discrepance between them — latest Lumberjack has combo-tool instead of cap-lifter in Model 2231 r +.
