I’ve already mentioned several times, that in 2017 Victorinox
discontinued slide-lock series (in 111-mm form-factor). So, it wasn’t a big surprise, when were announced, that as part of Damascus limited run
, will be presented a new edition of very popular Outrider
model (but with liner-lock for sure).
More interesting detail was the fact, that this version of Outrider will not include wood-saw and corkscrew.
Let’s review some pictures?
P.S. I’m not absolutely sure about materials of scales. On official press-release it was specified like:
…Epicurean scales with sequential numbering. These are manufactured using environmentally-friendly wood fiber material, that accentuate the elegant design.
As I wrote in previous post, in 2017 Victorinox did a great surprise (If you know what I mean) for all collectors – they re-released some old models with slide-lock mechanism but this time with liner-lock. Technically (from my point of view) these models should be named as new ones, but Victorinox didn’t think so..
So, let’s review “new old” model – Cheese knife
. In comparison with previous one
, this model has a locking (and bigger) cap-lifter
without sewing eye and new locking mechanism for sure.
- Hardwood Cheese Knife
- Swiss Cheese knife (Käsemesser)
In 2017 Victorinox announced a serious reorganization of their 111-mm series. Accordingly to it, all models with slider-lock were discontinued. As a (partial) replacement, few liner-lock models were released.
One of them (and first item in my collection) – very popular model Forester, but with nicely wooden scales.
Victorinox Rucksack without habitual Swiss Cross on scales, instead this it has logo which containg the big symbol “V” behind the World globe.
As popular legend said, for some muslim Middle East countries Victorinox released their production with this logo. Tolerancy as is..
[sarcasmMode] Innovations from Victorinox, – just add new color scales and… Hooray! New model was released! [/sarcasmMode]
Very popular model Trailmaster was released in 2016 with new desert camouflage scales as Trailmaster Grip.
- GAK-111 / Soldier 2008
The Victorinox Forester isn’t rare model. Even One Hand Forester model. But One Hand Forester with plain blade – it’s a rare bird. I even say – it’s an “extemely rare bird”. But it’s true for the past, because in 2017 Victorinox re-launched variation One Hand Forester with plain blade (and Dual-Grip scales).
So, I will call my Forester as “rare bird from the past” 🙂
- Trailmaster (Trekker)
I’ve started to collect Victorinox knives approximatelly 5 years ago. I didn’t thought that probably, once I will say – “I have them all! :)”
Of course I’m talking about possible situation when some series or some set of models will be completely present in my collection…
One day this dream made a reality. Few months before (maybe 1 year? – I don’t remember exactly) I’ve bought a last member of my 111-mm models. It was a model named Carpenter. For the long months it was a my Unicorn-SAK, I’ve tried to find it everywhere… Moreover – once I won this knife on eBay auction, but unfortunatelly, parcel with this knife was lost on it’s way to the Ukraine. Second attempt was more lucky and I’ve decided that mission completed, my collection of 111-mm is full. But again, it was 1 year before, I didn’t supposed that when I will post info about this knife in my blog, Victorinox released a lot of new 111-models in 2017.
So, for now (2017-July) my collection still have a lot of missed knives… Seems, this story will be continued.
The Victorinox Sentinel Black-Oxide model is a rare variation of popular Sentinel model. Accordingly to the SAKWiki:
The Black-Oxide Sentinel Clip (0.8416.M3) was first introduced in the special limited edition Victorinox Military Collector’s Set 2010. This All Black / Blackout version features black-oxide coated blade, liners, spring, keyring, and clip with black Nylon scales. The blade is one-hand opening with a plain-edge and a standard v-grind. Knives that were produced as part of the collection are numbered. A limited number of knives produced for sale in Europe outside of the collection are not numbered.
- Sentinel family
In October 2012, Victorinox released a new knife in Damascus series – Soldier / Trailmaster. It was first time when model of the year was a 111-mm with locking blade. Also this model had Swiss Walnut wooden scales.
- Soldier 2008
- Trailmaster / Trekker
As a special run, in 2009 Victorinox company produced a special edition of Outrider model for the Malaysian Armed Forces. This model has special Camouflage scales with printed logo on top scale and corkscrew replaced by the Phillips screwdriver.
This version of Victorinox Soldier 2008 (militarian version of civilian Trailmaster) I bought accidentally here, in Ukraine. I was surprised with a logo, printed on top scale – something which was called a “Fu Br 41“.
After short (very short) investigation I founf information about this Swiss army unit – Command Support Brigade 41.
In Deutch it sounds more dramatically (I’m not sure that can pronounce it ;):
Die Führungsunterstützungsbrigade 41
Besides that, it’s a regular SAK 2008 (year of production is 2011).
- Trailmaster (Trekker)
The Victorinox Forester is a popular 111-mm model with 3 layers of tools. It has several variations, related to using standard neylon or modern Dual-Grip scales, also it was produced with regular plain or One-Hand serrated blade. Version with One-Hand regular blade is also known, but a definetely rare one.
The Victorinox Cheese knife was released in 2013 specially for US market. As probably you know, original version of this knife (also known as Käsemesser) was released exclusively for Switzerland Cheese Marketing AG as limited series in 2010. Probably, Victorinox decided to renew success of this model and as result new model was released. It’s almost the same knife, but with few small discrepancies:
- now knife includes tweezers;
- usual scales with printed shield on it;
- lock-release button is grey;
- no etchings on blade;
- regular box instead of special packaging (version in blister packaging also was available).
- Hardwood Cheese knife
The Victorinox Forester is a 3-layer 111-mm which was produced in several variations – with One-hand and regular blades, with standart neylon and Dual-Grip scales. Current instance is a Ohe-hand variation with serrated blade and usual black scales.
Interesting fact: version with One-hand regular (non-serrated) blade was produced during a very short period and for now it’s a highly collectible item!
In this blog I’ve already described a lot of variations of Sentinel model. Current instance isn’t an exception, it’s just a regular OH plain-blade model with clip on back
- Hunter Pro
The Victorinox Adventurer is a very old and popular 111-mm knife with simple set of tools. Usually it was produced with plain main blade only, but specially for BSA, it was released with serrated blade (version with plain blade and BSA print also known, but I still haven’t it 🙁
P.S. Usually I’m trying add to my posts some related images (from old catalogs etc.), but just today I’ve mentioned that in this brochure (see image below) from Victorinox, Fieldmaster model annonced as Huntsman. Is it mistake, what do you think?
